Accommodation and expenses platform Roomex is partnering with sustainability specialist Squake to allow clients to report the carbon impact of their travel and accommodation bookings.
Roomex said the new carbon reporting feature would use Squake’s API to provide monthly statements with anonymised booking and carbon emissions data, using either the HCMI (Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative) or the UK government’s DEFRA frameworks for measuring emissions and sustainability.
Garry Moroney, CEO of Roomex, said: "As global awareness of environmental sustainability grows, businesses are increasingly seeking ways to reduce their carbon footprint.
“Our partnership with Squake enhances our commitment to sustainability by empowering our customers to make informed decisions, identify high-risk areas and implement strategies to reduce their environmental impact. This is a significant stride towards sustainable travel practices."
Roomex said that clients taking part in pre-launch trials had given the initiative “a positive reception”. These customers have received reports on their carbon emissions from travel for a “small percentage fee” of the total booking cost.
Natalie Estment, head of partnerships at Squake, added: “By combining our advanced carbon tracking technology with Roomex's comprehensive platform, we can provide businesses with the resources they need to understand and reduce their carbon footprint.
“This collaboration amplifies our mutual commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation in the business travel sector.”
