FLYING TOWARDS A BETTER TOMORROW

All over the world, the Lufthansa Group connects people, cultures, and economies – and that’s exactly what we want to carry on doing in the future. To keep you and your customers connected across the globe, whether for business or pleasure, it’s our aim to lead aviation into a more sustainable future.

To achieve our goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050 and cutting our net carbon emissions in half by 2030 compared to 2019 based on reduction and offsetting measures, the Lufthansa Group is continuously implementing a wide range of innovative measures including:

MODERN FLEET

The Lufthansa Group will put around 200 new, more sustainable aircraft into service by 2030. These reduce fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions by up to 30% compared to their predecessors – on every flight.

SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL (SAF)

SAF is a true alternative to fossil fuel and a key technology on our way to carbon neutral aviation. Compared to fossil fuels, SAF reduces CO2 emissions by up to 80%. The Lufthansa Group is involved in several projects to accelerate the development and industrialisation of the next generation of SAF. The focus here is on the forward-looking Power-to-Liquid (PtL) and Sun-to-Liquid (StL) technologies.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES

Intelligent software and technological hardware solutions ensure more efficient operational processes and smart planning to optimise fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions – on the ground and in the air.

SUSTAINABLE OPTIONS

We enable our customers to reduce their CO2 emissions immediately through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel or offset via long term climate protection projects. We also offer the innovative Green Fares as an additional fare option. All to support more sustainable air travel.
