South Pacific carrier Fiji Airways is set to become the 15th full member of the Oneworld airline alliance.
Fiji Airways has been a Oneworld Connect partner for the past five years and will now start its transition to full membership of the alliance, which is expected to be completed within 12 months.
The airline serves 26 destinations in 15 countries and territories, including Oneworld hubs in Sydney, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
As a full Oneworld member, Fiji Airways will provide Oneworld Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby customers with full Oneworld benefits, including earning and redeeming miles, earning status points, priority check-in and boarding, and lounge access.
Fiji Link, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiji Airways, will become an affiliate airline of Oneworld, according to the alliance.
The airline’s history dates from 1951 and was previously known as Air Pacific for more than 40 years until 2013 when it reverted to its original name of Fiji Airways. It currently has a fleet of 21 aircraft including Airbus A350s, Airbus A330s and Boeing 737s.
