Outpayce, Amadeus' wholly owned payments business, has received an eMoney institution license from the Bank of Spain, which gives it the "regulatory greenlight" to begin issuing virtual cards across travel agency booking systems and corporate self-booking tools, the company announced.
The payments subsidiary, which Amadeus launched last year, plans soon to begin issuing pre-paid virtual cards that can pay airlines and hotels within the booking systems and also be used by business travellers in digital wallets to pay for taxis, meals and other expenses during their trip. It initially will be able to issue cards only in Spain, but soon they will be able to be issued and used across the EU, according to an Amadeus spokesperson.
The issuing capability "complements Outpayce’s open payments platform that will allow any fintech company to easily connect with Amadeus’ travel customers," according to Outpayce CEO David Doctor.
